The J M McLachlan Trust was established according to the wishes of the late Isabella McLachlan outlined in her Will dated 1954 and later Deed dated 1984, and The Strathlachlan Fund was established in 2007 according to the wishes of her daughter, the late Susannah McLachlan. In 2014 the J M McLachlan Trust was merged into The Strathlachlan Fund in accordance with the terms of the Trust Deed, reconnecting mother and daughters philanthropic wishes to support vulnerable women. Both strongly believed that the cause of vulnerability in women could be changed.
Funding Application Guidelines
The fund was established with a strong commitment to New Zealand women and a belief that the causes of their vulnerability could be changed. This includes:
- Women who have lost their means of livelihood or support
- Women who have had their means of livelihood or support reduced because of adverse circumstances.
- Women deprived of the ordinary comforts of life to which they were accustomed.
The funds available in the general granting pool will be considerably less when compared to previous years. Grants from this pool will not be for made for major projects. Note: The general funding round has been retained (to a lesser extent) because the Trustee acknowledges the need for short term and one off grants for successful voluntary organisations that are entirely dependant on this type of grant.
